Tackling Online Abuse and Hate Speech for an English Premier League Football Club

Discover how Kroll helped protect a football club’s players and fan communities using our Social Defense Solutions.

The Challenge

An English Premier League Football Club experienced online hate and abuse from harmful social media users. After each match, abuse would spill out from stadiums and onto social media, putting fan communities and players at risk.

The club’s social media channels attract millions of comments, mostly from fans. Unfortunately, bad actors can quickly overwhelm those social media channels with harmful content, especially during match days, holidays and special events.

To make matters worse, the speed and scale of the digital chatter made it near-impossible for the club to separate online abuse from benign fan interactions using typical social listening tools. For example, this football club saw more than twelve million comments on their pages in just six months, with huge concentrations during key events and matches.

The club needed help sifting through the comments quickly, and with accuracy. Kroll got to work.
