Sustainability Commitments
Reducing our Emissions Footprint
Our carbon reduction plan is a commitment to continue to measure and reduce our emissions footprint by 2030.
The plan comprises a 1.5-degree Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) aligned Scope 1 and 2 near-term reduction targets, as well as Scope 3 near-term reduction target, our scope 3 categories include 3.1 Purchased Goods and Services, 3.6 Business Travel and 3.7 Employee Commuting.
To reach our reduction goals, we are committed to the following:
- Initiative 1: Kroll clean power
Directly purchase clean power to abate scope 2 emissions
- Initiative 2: Supplier clean power
Target key tier 1 and 2 suppliers to implement clean power
- Initiative 3: Sustainable commute
Sustainable commute program, incentivize employees to transition to EVs
- Initiative 4: Travel policy
Implementation of a travel policy to reduce non-essential travel and encourage low-carbon transportation
- Initiative 5: SAFc procurement
Purchase SAFc to offset business travel emissions
In an effort to meet these environmental goals, Kroll works with Watershed, a third-party enterprise sustainability platform, to annually measure Kroll’s complete greenhouse gas footprint. This footprint is reported yearly in Kroll’s Annual Impact Report and through external environmental data disclosure platforms such as CDP and EcoVadis.
Kroll works with Watershed to purchase verified, voluntary carbon credits and energy attribute certificates (EACs). For our 2023 footprint, Kroll purchased carbon credits from two forestry projects representing 3,540 tons of carbon dioxide removal (which are described in more detail here). We purchased this quantity to fully offset our scope 1 emissions and to partially offset (54%) of our scope 3.6 US-originated air travel emissions. In addition, we purchased 10,830 EACs equivalent to 100% of our 2023 scope 2 office and scope 3.7 homeworker electricity consumption. We purchased EACs on a country-by-country or regional basis, in alignment with the RE100 standard wherever possible.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
We’ve tied our strategies and initiatives to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). While we acknowledge and respect the interconnectivity of the 17 goals that make up the SDGs, we believe four of them are directly relevant to our business and connected to areas where we can make the greatest impact. Kroll’s Sustainability efforts are deliberately aligned to:
- Goal 4, Quality Education: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
- Goal 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
- Goal 10, Reduced Inequalities: Reduce inequalities within and among countries.
- Goal 13, Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
